Tangem Pay is a Visa card programme available inside the Tangem Wallet app and issued by Rain. It lets eligible users load USDC on Polygon into a Tangem Pay account and spend that balance online, in stores or through Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Tangem Wallet itself remains a separate non-custodial hardware wallet product. The card account requires identity verification and follows Rain's eligibility rules, while the main Tangem Wallet does not become custodial just because you activate Tangem Pay. The standard current product is a virtual Visa card, with broader physical-card availability still being rolled out.
Tangem Wallet is self-custodial, but Tangem Pay is a separate regulated card programme. Your hardware wallet remains non-custodial and you continue to control its private keys, while the balance loaded into the Tangem Pay account is governed by the Rain-issued card programme.
Tangem explicitly separates the two products: identity checks apply to Tangem Pay, not to the underlying Tangem Wallet. This is important because the card does not make the whole wallet custodial, but money moved into the payment account should not be described as remaining under exactly the same self-custody model as untouched assets in the hardware wallet.
Tangem Pay currently uses USDC on Polygon as its card-funding asset. You load USDC on Polygon into the Tangem Pay account, then spend through the Visa card.
That means a token being supported by Tangem Wallet does not automatically make it spendable through Tangem Pay. Bitcoin, Ether and thousands of other wallet assets may still need to be swapped or moved into the supported USDC balance first. Always use the funding route shown in the Tangem app because sending the right token on the wrong network can result in failed or lost transfers.
Tangem Pay's Basic virtual card is currently free and has no monthly subscription fee. Tangem also lists higher planned tiers: Plus at $29.99 per month and Prestige at $999 per year, although parts of those premium packages are still marked as coming soon or subject to rollout.
The Basic tier is therefore the relevant live option for most users today. Tangem states that applicable card fees and limits still apply even when the card itself is free, so users should review the live account disclosure before loading or spending.
Tangem Pay currently presents three tiers. Basic is free, includes up to three cards per user and a $10,000 daily spending limit. Plus is listed at $29.99 per month, with up to five cards and a $50,000 daily limit. Prestige is listed at $999 per year, with up to ten cards and a $100,000 daily limit.
Plus and Prestige also advertise premium benefits such as lounge visits, bonuses and insurance, but several of these benefits are still marked as coming soon. Users should therefore distinguish between what is live today and what Tangem has announced for future rollout.
Not as a fully live standard benefit yet. Tangem's current product page advertises future cashback of up to 4% and welcome bonuses of up to $75, but labels these rewards as coming soon or dependent on tier and eligibility.
That means MyCardCompare would not treat 4% as a guaranteed current cashback rate for every Tangem Pay purchase. The Basic card should currently be evaluated mainly on its free virtual issuance, USDC spending, wallet integration and mobile-wallet support. Check the live Tangem Pay rewards section before assuming a specific cashback percentage applies.
Yes. Tangem officially supports both Apple Pay and Google Pay for eligible Tangem Pay virtual cards. After card activation and verification, users can add the Visa card to a supported mobile wallet and make contactless payments at compatible merchants.
This is particularly important because the standard Tangem Pay product is currently virtual. Mobile-wallet support gives users in-person payment functionality without waiting for a physical card. Apple Pay availability can still depend on country and Apple's own regional support rules.
The standard broadly available Tangem Pay card is still virtual. Tangem says a physical card is planned for a future update.
There is one important exception: Tangem has announced an Early Birds Edition physical card for the first 5,000 eligible Basic and Plus users. Because that is a limited rollout rather than general availability, users should not assume every Tangem Pay account can currently order a physical card. The live card section in the Tangem app is the final source for whether a physical option is available to a specific account.
Tangem Pay is issued through Rain. Tangem provides the wallet application and hardware-wallet ecosystem, while Rain operates the regulated card programme and handles the payment-account side of the product.
Tangem also states that identity verification is handled through Rain's compliance providers, including Sumsub for ID verification and Elliptic for transaction monitoring. This separation matters because Tangem Wallet's non-custodial structure and Tangem Pay's regulated payment account are legally and operationally different products inside the same app.
Yes. Tangem Pay requires identity verification and eligibility checks before the Visa card can be fully activated for spending. Tangem says Rain and its compliance providers handle the required verification.
This does not mean your main Tangem Wallet becomes KYC-based. Tangem explicitly says the hardware wallet remains a separate non-custodial product, and card verification applies only to the Tangem Pay account. Users who want completely permissionless wallet use can continue using Tangem Wallet without the card, while cardholders must satisfy the regulated payment programme's requirements.
Tangem Pay can be used online and at in-store merchants that accept Visa, subject to the card programme's country and merchant restrictions. With Apple Pay or Google Pay, the virtual card can also be used at compatible contactless terminals.
The merchant does not receive USDC. The payment is processed through Visa using the Tangem Pay balance. Global Visa acceptance is different from global card eligibility, so a card may work while travelling in countries where residents cannot currently apply for Tangem Pay.
Tangem's current tier comparison lists a $10,000 daily spending limit for Basic, $50,000 for Plus and $100,000 for Prestige. Basic allows up to three cards per user, Plus up to five and Prestige up to ten.
Because Plus and Prestige are still partly in rollout and some benefits are marked as coming soon, users should check the limits shown in the live Tangem Pay account before relying on a premium-tier figure. Transaction, compliance or merchant controls can also affect individual purchases even when the daily headline limit is higher.
Tangem Wallet is a non-custodial hardware wallet that gives the user control of private keys. Tangem Pay is a separate regulated Visa card programme inside the same app.
To use Tangem Pay, you create a payment account, complete KYC and load supported USDC for spending. None of those requirements applies to simply holding assets in a Tangem Wallet. The distinction lets users keep long-term assets in self-custody while using a separate card balance for everyday payments, without confusing the card account with the hardware wallet itself.
You need a Tangem Wallet and the Tangem app. Open the Tangem Pay section, create the virtual Visa card, complete the required identity and eligibility checks, then load USDC on Polygon into the payment account.
Once activated, the virtual card can be used online or added to Apple Pay or Google Pay where supported. Basic currently starts at $0. If the physical Early Birds option or a premium tier is available to your account, the live app will show the applicable upgrade or ordering flow.
For Tangem Pay or wallet issues, use Tangem's official Help Centre and support channels linked from tangem.com or the Tangem app. Card-specific questions can involve Rain because Rain operates the payment programme, while wallet questions remain with Tangem's support structure.
If the issue involves a payment, keep the merchant, amount, date and error details available. If it involves funding, keep the Polygon transaction hash and USDC transfer details. Never share a seed phrase, private key or wallet access code with support.
