FAQs

Questions, answered

The Wise Card is a multicurrency debit card linked to a Wise payment account. It lets users hold and spend more than 40 currencies and automatically converts money when the required currency is not already available.

Wise is designed primarily for international fiat payments, not crypto spending. The card can be useful for people who use crypto platforms, but it should not be classified as a true crypto card because it does not directly spend or custody cryptocurrency.

No. Wise does not provide a crypto wallet, crypto exchange or direct crypto-to-card spending feature. The Wise Card spends fiat balances held in the Wise account.

This makes Wise different from cards that automatically sell Bitcoin or stablecoins at checkout. Wise appears in crypto-card comparisons mainly because the card can be used for lawful purchases at some crypto platforms, while the Wise account itself has stricter rules around cryptocurrency-related transfers and trading.

Wise says its card-use policy can allow card payments to cryptocurrency platforms when the transaction is legal and supported in the card's region.

This does not mean Wise supports crypto trading inside the Wise account. The card payment and Wise account policies are different, and individual exchanges can still be blocked or declined. Wise also charges a 2% fee for certain cash-like or external e-wallet top-ups, which can include some cryptocurrency-related transactions.

Wise does not support buying, selling or trading cryptocurrency directly through a Wise account. Its acceptable-use rules also restrict certain crypto-related account transfers.

The important distinction is that a Wise Card can be used for some lawful crypto-platform purchases even though the underlying Wise account is not a crypto account. Users should review Wise's current crypto policy before sending money to or from an exchange.

If you already hold the currency being charged, Wise normally uses that balance without a conversion fee. If you do not hold enough, Wise converts from another available balance and applies its current conversion fee.

Wise uses the mid-market exchange rate rather than adding a separate foreign transaction markup. Its smart-conversion system chooses an available balance automatically when conversion is needed.

Wise does not add a separate foreign transaction fee just because you use the card abroad. If you already hold the merchant's currency, ordinary spending is generally free from Wise's side.

If conversion is required, Wise charges its normal currency-conversion fee and uses the mid-market rate. Merchants and ATMs can still offer dynamic currency conversion, so paying in the local currency is usually preferable.

Pricing varies by country. For residents in Spain, Wise currently charges €7 to order the physical card and no subscription fee. The digital card is free, while replacement of a standard card is currently €4.

Other EEA countries can have slightly different issuance or delivery pricing. Check Wise's pricing page after selecting your country before ordering.

Yes. The Wise Card can be used at compatible ATMs. From May 2026, cards issued in most of Europe receive up to €250 of withdrawals per month without a Wise withdrawal fee.

Wise currently charges 2.69% on the amount withdrawn above the €250 monthly allowance. The ATM operator can add its own fee, and currency conversion can also apply if the withdrawal currency is not already held.

Yes, in supported countries. Wise cards issued in many EEA markets, including Spain, Portugal, Germany, France and Italy, can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay on compatible devices.

Wallet availability depends on where the card was issued. Wise maintains a country-by-country list, so users should verify support for their issuing country rather than assuming every Wise card has identical mobile-wallet access.

Yes. Wise offers a digital card in supported regions, and its European pricing currently lists the digital version as free.

The digital card has separate card details from the physical card but uses the same Wise account balances. It can be used for online purchases and, where supported, added to Apple Pay or Google Pay for contactless spending.

Wise applies daily and monthly account spending limits across the cards on a personal account. Users can also set lower limits for an individual card.

The exact maximum depends on the country where the card was issued and can change if the account address changes. Wise therefore directs users to the Cards tab in the app or website for the current limit applying to their account.

Wise currently offers personal cards to residents of the EEA and Switzerland, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore and the United States except Nevada, plus several related territories.

Card availability is narrower than general Wise transfer availability. Moving to a different card region can also require a new card because issuing licences and terms vary by location.

A Wise EEA account is a payment account rather than a traditional bank account. Wise's customer agreement states that bank deposit guarantee and protection funds do not apply to the Wise account or card.

Wise safeguards customer money under the regulatory rules applying to its payment institution, but this is different from deposit insurance. Users comparing Wise with a bank should understand that distinction.

Create a Wise account, complete the required verification and open the Cards section. If cards are available in your country, order the physical card or create an available digital card.

Wise may ask for additional identity checks when a card is requested. Once the physical card arrives, activate it using the instructions in the app before relying on it for travel or ATM withdrawals.

Use Wise's official Help Centre at https://wise.com/help and the support options shown after logging into your Wise account for card, ATM, exchange or transaction problems.

If the card is lost or compromised, freeze it in the Wise app and follow the replacement process. Use only official Wise channels and never share passwords or one-time authentication codes with unsolicited contacts.
